Design WOO is a great blog with some really cool designs from all over the web and design world. Some of my favorites include the Watch Diary, the Star Wars Models (they used masked Star Wars characters to model clothes from various designers), and the Sofa Pillow (which is like they made a giant koosh ball out of pillows).

A Descriptive Writing Exercise March 16, 2011

Here’s a quick exercise to pratice descriptive writing: On your way to work (or other location) take a moment to look around. How would you describe that? Where are you? What do you see? What do you here? What are your emotions as you’re traveling? Now try to describe it to someone from 100 years ago. Try again to describe it without using certain nouns such as car, sign, road, etc.

Feel free to tell me what you come up with.

Destination DIY – A Fascinating Podcast March 8, 2011

Destination DIY is a fascinating DIY podcast. It goes beyond the basic DIY of sewing, crafting, etc. and looks at some non-traditional definitions of DIY (or looks at the basic definition, depending on your view).

I just listened to a podcast about DIY economy that looks at non-traditional economies including alternative ways to save money (outside of a bank), alternatives to money (like using time as a currency), and even has some ways to stimulate your own personal economy (by saving money through clothing swaps and other options). There’s also a podcast on the economy of kids and the child barter system.

Of course, the podcast doesn’t just talk about money and the economy. There are podcasts about creating our own traditions and DIY writing.
