Child's Castle Bedroom

Okay, so I’m checking up on one of my favorite sites, threadbanger.com, and they mention a site called apartmenttherapy.com. They have a bunch of great projects for decorating your apartment (sadly many of them assume that you’re allowed to do things like rip off carpet, nail stuff to your walls, etc. so it wouldn’t work for a college student in a dorm room). They have some fun projects like using pennies instead of tile on the floor (seriously that would actually be cheaper than some of those flooring options at the stores),building free-standing shelving to break up a room or give some personal space, and decorating your house with “collections of color” – a bunch of somewhat unrelated stuff that are all the same color (whether you paint them that color or not).

One of the projects I found (http://www.apartmenttherapy.com/sf/bedroom/-096515) was for practically TPing your bedroom with a boat load of one color of fabric (you can have different textures, but all the same color). Okay, not the most practical thing (now where did I put that chair?) but it gave me an idea:

For the longest time I’ve been wanting to decorate my bedroom to look like the inside of a castle turret (kind of like the image above, but cooler of course), but I don’t want to paint my walls and make it permanent. Here’s the solution: paint sheets of fabric instead! Or you could paint boards, or sheets of vinyl, or something like that. Then all you have to do is pin it up (assuming you can make holes in the walls of your apartment) and voila! Take it down and put up another design whenever you want (hmmm, I’m thinking France, a fairy forest, the moon,…).

Sounds like fun to me!
