Sure, it was loads of fun when my sister and I painted our bedroom ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars, comets, planets, etc., and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed it ever since, but it sadly doesn’t last very long.

That’s where this beauty comes in – fiber-optic stars in your ceiling!!! Bwahahaha! (Yes, that deserves an evil laugh.) Simply buy several feet of fiber-optic cable, some fancy box, and go digging up in the attic amidst the prickly, hot insulation. Okay, so I would change some things: 1) Why do we need the fancy, expensive box? I’d use something like a regular lightbulb in a home-built box (you can even rig up the funky turning colored wheel if you’re really interested) or maybe just a flashlight. 2) Do a drop-ceiling (you basically just add a second ceiling a few inches below the first one) instead of climbing through the insulation.

You could also probably do the same kind of thing with LEDs instead of fiber-optics. You could even have a system with a centralized switch and power supply.

The only problem with either of these is that it’s just the stars and doesn’t include the awesome nebulas and glowing dust. 😀 For that we’ll just have to airbrush the ceiling with glow-in-the-dark paints. (Eee! I’m getting excited! I feel another evil laugh coming on…)
