Love Anime? Make a Costume! October 20, 2009

One of my favorite things about Anime is all the fantastic costumes! Nearly all of these silly fashion designers here in the U.S. or in Europe need to take lessons from the Anime designers. They’re so unique yet actually wearable (for the most part) and look great (unlike some outfits worn by certain actors of which we know of). A couple of my favorites for such wonderful costumes are Card Captor Sakura and Nanoha (even though I’ve never seen it – I wonder if it’s good).

Then I learned about a part of the Anime-watching culture – Cosplay! What’s Cosplay? Simple – creating and wearing Anime costumes and is most often worn to Anime conventions. And no, you don’t have to go to a convention to make and wear your own Cosplay costume (they make awesome Halloween costumes). In fact, it doesn’t even have to be from a specific Anime (I’m using some of the concepts in a comic strip I’m developing).

And that’s where the site CosplayManual.com comes in. They have some awesome tutorials for making Cosplay costumes including boots, petticoats (they’re like an underskirt that helps the skirt flair out big, square-dancing costumes use them), and even wigs (a must in nearly all Cosplay).
