You Don’t Have to Write a Novel to Celebrate Nanowrimo November 5, 2013

It’s Nanowrimo! Nanowrimo stands for National Novel Writing Month. No, you don’t have to write a novel this November, but it’s a great time to work on writing, drawing, or any project you’ve been wanting to do for a long time.

What am I planning to do this month? A lot. Christmas is coming so I thought I’d work on a story for Christmas. I also want to work on an official Imaginator Sindy website, a story for my blog readers, and finish some stories to send to an agent. I probably won’t get it all done this month, and that’s okay, but I will try my hardest to get them ALL done.

What you can do for Nanowrimo (that doesn’t include writing a novel):

  • Try to work on a project you’ve been wanting to do but never got around to doing
  • Set a nice, big goal for this month, whether it’s related to reading or not
  • Write a story, draw a picture, or simply write a letter
  • Have a special day (or a party) based on one of your favorite books
  • Pick one of your favorite books and list why you like it

Or, if you really do want to write an entire novel, here’s a great resource from Brent Sanderson, author of the Mistborn series, teaches at BYU and shares videos of his lectures online for free. http://www.writeaboutdragons.com/brandon_w2012/
NOTE: You’ll want to use the menus in the top right corner of the website because the links on the page don’t work.
